Living Willow in the Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds 10th March 2020

The Abbey Gardens play area has a living willow fedge around it.  It was built around 10 years ago and was in great need of being smartened up.  The first photos are before we started.  Our first task was to clear all the ivy that has taken over the base of the willow fedge:

Colin, Jonathon and Liz cleared the ivy while Chris thinned out the dead growth:

 

Here is the willow thinned out

Liz (other Liz!) planted new growth into each section and wove it back into a flowing shape as it was originally intended

We will be returning later on in the summer to weave in the new growth and keep it tidy.
