Fence treatment and repairs
To keep your willow fence (or sculpture) in the best condition possible we recommend treating it annually with linseed oil. This also brings out the colour of the willow. Treating the fence is best done late summer early autumn during a dry spell.
We use boiled linseed as it dries quickly. It can either be applied neat with a large brush or diluted with white spirit if sprayed on .
We offer this service ourselves, normally contacting all customers in the summer with a quote to treat the fences. During the visit the fence can be inspected and any remedial action advised if required.
If you have any queries about fence treatment we are happy to offer advice.
Repairs;
Generally the first repair you will need on your fence will be to replace the top. When re topping a willow fence we remove any remaining willow from the top and the stobs. We then put in short uprights to the left of the existing uprights to strengthen the top of the fence. Then we take off enough willow so that we can weave up and down at least once. Then we put on the new top, level it up, clip it and saw off the uprights to just above fence height.
